This page explains where directory listings come from, what they do and don't tell you, and how quote requests relate to them.
Where listings come from
The well driller directory contains separate source observations from the jurisdictions shown on the directory hub. The source rosters have different purposes: some identify individual or business licenses, New York lists contractor registrations, Indiana lists employers with a licensed individual, and North Carolina lists certificate numbers under supplied employer or status labels. Records retain those distinctions; the hub shows the current number of source observations. That total is not a count of verified drilling companies or distinct active licenses.
The Texas import contains 866 individual water well driller license records from the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR). The imported licenses were unexpired on its October 10, 2026 retrieval date. Each Texas listing shows the name on the license, license number, expiry date, endorsements, available source-record phone and address details, registered county and retrieval date. A license can change after retrieval; check the state source before hiring.
The additional rosters came from supplied files received October 11, 2026. Their listings show the identified agency, the file received date and a source roster edition where known. The received date is not a fresh agency verification, and source wording such as “active” or a listed expiry date describes the supplied observation. Unknown license numbers, dates and contacts remain missing; we do not invent them. Distinct licenses and other records remain separate, even when they share a name or phone.
Source jurisdiction and physical address state are separate fields. An Indiana DNR employer with an Ohio address is grouped under the Indiana source roster, rather than presented as an Ohio license. County pages use an in-state address county only when the record's physical state matches the source jurisdiction. Minnesota, New York and Pennsylvania omit physical address states from the supplied files; we do not fill them in from the source jurisdiction. North Carolina's supplied employer county is preserved and searchable, but it does not establish a physical address state or service coverage. Other records remain accessible from the jurisdiction page without being assigned an in-state county or a service area.
Oklahoma's supplied file is an archival roster dated January 24, 2013. Its listings and search results are marked historical and do not establish current licensing; use the linked current agency lookup before using the listed contacts. North Carolina's supplied employer or status labels are dated April 22, 2026. Each certificate number gets a separate observation, with the original source-row certificate list preserved. Some supplied employer fields contain employment statuses rather than company names. Individual certificate-holder names and certification levels are absent from that file, so we do not create named individual profiles or interpret the certificates as company licenses.
Colorado's roster covers drilling, pump installation and special licenses; its supplied CSV omits the work classes and limitations. Minnesota also has limited-specialty contractor categories, and Mississippi has restricted license types. Inclusion in any of these sources does not by itself establish permission to drill a drinking-water well. Check the agency's current work classifications before hiring.
Individual license holders and company identity
A personal name on a license identifies the license holder. It does not establish a company name, company ownership or the business that would enter your drilling contract. Some license holders share source-record telephone numbers or addresses. Those overlaps are useful questions to investigate; they do not establish that records represent the same business, and we do not merge records on that basis.
We preserve the individual records and maintain company identities separately. A business name in a source roster is shown as a listed field, rather than automatically creating a verified company identity or licensee association. An employer record is not converted into an individual or company license. A certificate observation with a supplied employer or status label is not a named individual or company license. Where the same license number appears under distinct business names or locations, the source observations remain separate and link to each other; those observations do not count as additional licenses.
A company association needs recorded evidence that explicitly connects the named license holder with that company. Any evidence-backed association is displayed separately from the license source, with its evidence and review date. It does not establish insurance, availability, workmanship, service coverage or participation in quote requests. Two company-owned websites explicitly publish license numbers matching individual Texas records in this inventory. Those two Texas associations are shown with their sources on the relevant profiles; no additional company affiliations were inferred from the new rosters. Neither company has verified service coverage or is enrolled to receive quote requests.
What a listing doesn't tell you
A listing means a record appeared in the source roster; its stated kind may be an individual license, business license, contractor registration, employer record or certificate observation with a supplied employer or status label. It is not a recommendation, rating, guarantee or fresh confirmation of current licensing. We haven't independently verified insurance, workmanship, availability or pricing, and a listing says so. Where something has been independently checked in the future, the listing will show what was checked and when, separately from the source data.
A listed address county is the county recorded in the source file. County and address fields are source-record details, not verified service areas. Ask which drilling company would perform and contract for the work, and whether it serves your property.
Free listings and participating contractors
Imported public source records are listed free, and nobody pays to appear or to rank higher in those listings. Listings within a county are shown alphabetically. The directory is an imported snapshot, not a guarantee that every active license, employer or drilling company in the jurisdiction is included.
Participating contractors would be separately identified drilling companies that have agreed to receive requests, with verified recipient details and evidenced service coverage. A public source record is not enrollment or consent to receive leads. No company is currently enrolled, and public quote requests are unavailable.
Before a future quote service opens, matching must use the company's confirmed coverage rather than a source address county. Requests must go only to eligible participating companies, and homeowners must be told which company received their details or that no match was available. Participating companies may pay for requests. Any future paid or featured placements will be labeled clearly and kept separate from free source-record listings.
Stale and incorrect records
Source records change. Listings distinguish the Texas retrieval date from the file received date used for the additional rosters; we do not claim continuous updates or live license verification. Before hiring, confirm the current license, registration or applicable work classification with the agency linked on the listing. Send directory corrections through the contact page with the record link, license number if available and supporting evidence.
Using the directory responsibly
Use listings as a starting point. Compare written, itemized quotes from more than one contractor, check licenses and insurance yourself, and read the questions to ask a well driller. Independent sources such as NGWA's contractor lookup can help too; per NGWA, membership does not certify state compliance, and NGWA does not endorse or guarantee listed companies. The privacy notice explains how quote requests are handled. [NGWA source note]

Not this site’s supply or endorsement; membership not license verification
First-party implementation evidence: separate observations across 15 source jurisdictions; 866 Texas individual TDLR licenses preserved; two Texas company affiliations supported by company-owned websites. Additional rosters supplied in CSV files received 2026-10-11, not freshly verified; missing fields and separate license records preserved; Indiana employer records grouped under Indiana regardless of physical address state. No participating companies; public quote requests disabled. Shared phones, addresses and listed business names are not automatic company-affiliation evidence.
Claims are grounded in the dated source notes above; project-specific price, yield, licensure and permit answers require site-specific and local verification.
